About Me

With over 30 years in high tech, in a wide range of positions, from technical writer to software engineer, to project / program / portfolio manager, I’ve been hands-on at every stage of the software development and customer support cycles. I’ve led teams, managed portfolios of 8+ projects / programs, and I’ve reported up to leadership on everything from raging successes to the need for “recalibration” on challenged initiatives. I’ve been tied up for months in budgeting cycles, and I’ve vetted and managed technology vendors.

I’ve also been active in volunteer work, including heading up a nationally syndicated radio show that went out to 450 inter-connected stations each week for 26 years. Ensuring the show was delivered promptly to the broadcast engineers, troubleshooting transmission issues at the 11th hour, and maintaining open channels of communication with stations, sponsors, and listeners alike was my “off duty” world for nearly three decades.

I’ve also been responsible for the health and safety of groups I helped organize for international travel. Heading up the operations for two UK tours for a choral group from Massachusetts – with many travelers who had never been outside the USA – just a year after the 9-11-2001 attacks, when nobody wanted to get on a plane, took a coordinated effort of ironclad logistics, as well as steady leadership for participants who were justifiably terrified of flying, especially internationally. Both tours were wonderful experiences for the participants, as well as the audience members. Sometimes planning alone isn’t enough. A steady, confident presence with a clear understanding of others’ concerns… that’s what made it all possible.

In all my years of professional and volunteer work, I’ve watched time and again how challenging it can be to provide leadership. Especially in times of radical paradigm shifts – like what’s happening around us now, day in and day out – leadership brings its own unique challenges. So many of the difficulties are invisible to those you’re leading. But they are very real, very pressing. And it’s hard to know where you can get help.

This is where I come in. It’s where GenAI plays a critical role. Generative AI has incredible power. Its capabilities are second to none… IF you know how to leverage it.

GenAI can be a wonderful ally in supporting you in all of that – and more. But you have to understand its capabilities, limitations, and risks. Whether it’s a SWOT analysis, or strategic ideation, GenAI can be great. And it can make you better than ever.

But randomly typing a vague question and hoping for a useful answer when you tap / click the “Send” button is no way to do it.
